Chapter History

On Saturday, April 27, 2022, a vision became a reality, and the Waycross Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.  (WACDST) was chartered with 13 dedicated women covering 7 counties in Southeast Georgia. Past National President Dr Paulette Walker served as the presiding officer in her capacity as Southern Regional Director and Past Regional Representative, Sgt Jaki Johnson served as the chartering President.

Over the past 21 years, the Waycross Alumnae Chapter has been a driving force in the rural Southeast Georgia area with a purpose to provide services and programs that enlighten, engage, and educate the entire community on social issues that have a direct impact on the African American community.

A small chapter of 23, WACDST has built a legacy of unwavering commitment to service, promoting academic excellence, focusing on scholarship, encouraging social action, maintaining staunch political involvement and providing programs and services to meet community concerns.

Through the development and execution of numerous meaningful outreach programs, the Waycross Alumnae Chapter's vast impact has continued in alignment with Delta’s National Five Point Programmatic Thrust. Waycross Alumnae Chapter’s activities and events focus on:

  • Economic Development

  • Education Development

  • International Awareness and Involvement

  • Physical and Mental Health

  • Political Awareness and Involvement

The members of the Waycross Alumnae Chapter motivate, develop, and encourage local youth through youth initiatives, including Delta Debutantes, Delta Jr. Debutantes and Delta GEMS. Over $40,000 in scholarships have been given to qualifying college bound youth in Pierce, Coffee and Ware Counties, thanks in part to our highly supported annual events such as our Red & White Ball and Delta Debutante Cotillion. We support healthy living through events like "Relay for Life," and the annual "Sista Strut," which raises money and awareness to combat breast cancer. Lastly, staying true to our Founders' commitment to Social Action, WAC invariably leads efforts for voter registration and empowerment, host a Women in Politics Forum, and attends Divine Nine Day at the Waycross City Commission, an activity that was initiated by the Waycross Alumnae Chapter.

These are just some of the many ways that WAC has been committed to engaging rural Southeast Georgia communities over the last 21 years, and we intend to continue this service for many years to come.
