Five-Point Programmatic Thrust
Since its founding in 1913 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has clearly distinguished itself as a public service organization that boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans. Over the years, a wide range of programs addressing education, health, international development, and strengthening of the African American family have evolved. In realizing its mission, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. provides an extensive array of public service initiatives through its Five-Point Programmatic Thrust.

Educational Development
The mission of the Educational Development programs is to impact the lives of the youth in our community by inspiring, motivating, and supporting their aspirations and achievements. We seek to influence and inspire students to excel academically while balancing a well-rounded social life. All programs offer opportunities for participants to develop and enhance their skills and develop opportunities for academic excellence, leadership and self-esteem, community service, health and wellness.

Physical and Mental Health
As an organization of predominately African American women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is uniquely positioned to impact not only the well-being of its members, but also the well-being of families and communities at large. To facilitate this effort, the Health Task Force was launched to provide concentrated expertise and focus on the Physical and Mental Health aspect of our Five-Point Programmatic Thrust.

International Awareness & Involvement
The Social Action Committee of the Waycross Alumnae Chapter is dedicated to discovering the social issues that impact the communities of Coffee, Pierce and Ware Counties. These issues might be education reform, health disparities, unethical political decisions, denied human rights or voter suppression, just to name a few.

Political Awareness and Involvement
When 22 collegiate women decided to establish Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, their intent was clear: to establish an organization that was committed to advocating for the rights of marginalized and disenfranchised citizens, particularly the Black community. They used the power of their sisterhood to educate, engage, and empower others as they worked to ensure equality and justice. The Founders’ first act of public service was their participation in the Women’s Suffrage March, which took place March 3, 1913, just a few weeks after the sorority was established.
Since that time, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated has continued to focus on addressing issues that affect our communities on a local, regional, national, and international level. For 21 years, the Waycross Alumnae Chapter has initiated and coordinated a number of programs aimed at promoting social action and political awareness and involvement.

Economic Development
The goals of Economic Development is to explore national and local trends that create unstable economic circumstances such as unemployment, underemployment, threats to Social Security, and wage inequities. The current National Economic Development initiative is Financial Fortitude, which is a process that will help program participants to set and define goals, develop a plan to achieve them, and to put the plan into action.
